Singapore’s Merlion turns 50 years old this year on September 15. The 2022 Singapore Grand Prix lights up after a 2 year absence.
The Grand Prix is the world first night race, a formula one motor race held on 2nd October at the Marina Bay Street circuit in Marina Bay.
Racing is one of the most popular sports in the world. The mixture of great cars, amazing speeds provide a rush that many of us can’t get enough of. Drawing of the racing car is a challenge but I find it fun to finish the drawing.
I have also drawn the Merlion as part of the tribute to celebrate the mythical creature golden jubilee. The Merlion is a landmark and icon of Singapore which symbolises the country of Singapore. The statue depicts a creature with half body of a fish and half of a lion head.
The 8.6m tall sculpture was unveiled in 1992. Fish body represents Singapore origin as a fishing village. Lion head harks back to Sang Nila Utama’s first lion sighting and naming of Singapura the lion city. It is located at Fullerton road.
I have created a reimagining of the Merlion Park landscape surrounded by happy cool mermaids.
I have carefully illustrated the iconic Merlion with lots of love and nostalgia combine with mermaids and racing elements to create a fantasy Singapore landscape.
I love drawing mermaids as there are so beautiful and delicate. It really brought back a ton of memories of when I was little.
I wanted everyone to experience the Merlion in a fun unique and creative way. I hope that my illustration breathes new life and adds charm to the beautiful city.
