I am very happy to illustrate and share my illustration for one of the most popular cafe and famous coffee brand in Singapore, % Arabica. I had illustrated its first outlet in Singapore located at Arab Street, famous for its Middle East atmosphere.
In order to make the artwork special, I had also added fun character with fashion elements to make the architecture drawing stand out.
Arabica was founded in 2014 by coffee owner Kenneth Shoji along with latte art champion Junichi Yamaguchi. Arabica is about their love for coffee, design and seeing the world. Currently it has more than 80 stores in 15 countries.
The popular Japanese coffee shop % open its first store in Singapore in 2019 and since then it has 4 more outlets in 313 Somerset, Chip bee Gardens, Holland Village and Jewel Changi. The first outlet was opened in 2015 and located at 56 Arab Street.
Arab street is the place in Singapore to explore on wonderful authentic middle east flavours and culture. It is also the centre of the local Islamic community.
The cafe itself served marvellous coffee like the espresso, American and Spanish Latte. Arabica coffee comes from the beans of a coffee arabica plant which is originated in Ethiopia.
Its bestselling drinks are the Cafe Latte and Matcha Latte.
Arabica’s signature interior decor are white with grey and gold accents with the distinctive % logo in gold.
Drawing architecture buildings can be fun and inspiring. For the illustration of the Arabica building, I had chosen their first outlet located at the Arab street as I find the building unique and had nice decor.
I had walked around the building to have a better look of the building and the background as any details can have a strong effect on composition.
Building uses the colour of brown, the default colour of wood as its main exterior background colour. The upper mass of building are fully coloured in brown whereas the windows are in blue white color.
With a bit of patience and an open mind, I started to sketch the entire building, work out the perspectives. I liked to use very thin lines to draw the main structure so that any mistakes can be easily erased. When the main structures are done, I start indicating and adding the roofs and windows. When everything is finished, I refine it further with liner pen before the final steps which is the applying of colours.
