Today is the National Day of Singapore. Red and white are the colours of our flag. I had specially illustrated the Potato Head Singapore which is housed across four floors of a heritage building located along Keong Saik road shophouses to celebrate Singapore 56th birthday. The curved facade and striking red and white colour resembles that of our national flag.
Potato head Singapore is a multi storey restaurant bar with a tropical rooftop view. In 2013, Potato Head took over the iconic triangular shophouse and transformed it into a restaurant. It has classic beautiful Art Deco style and charming interior decoration. You can enjoy mouth watering burger, fries and cocktails.
Singapore have a lot of beautiful heritage buildings and Potato head is one of them. The red and white Dong Ya building is an icon by itself. It has 4 storeys each offering different dining experiences.
It has the Art Deco design characteristics like the intricate line art, geometric shapes, aerodynamic curves and painted colours. Built in 1939, it is one of the most iconic destination in Singapore.
I was at the intersection of Keong Saik and Teck Lim road, drawing my first initial sketch. I totally loved its architectural elements, borders and colour scheme. I kept the sketch for a while and had planned to create something bright and colourful to match the national theme for this week. I hope to enrich Singapore culture through my illustration of this building, bringing out the beautiful streetscape and landscape of Singapore. I had also added fun characters into my artwork. My goal is to inject a sense of joy and positivity in this special day.
