Christmas at Wheelock place

This festive season, I have created an illustration of Wheelock Place, a 21 floor office tower and retail shopping mall located at Orchard road.

The building was designed by the late Japanese architect Kisho Kurokava. The stunning glass pyramid of Wheelock place is designed as a prominent landmark building and was completed in 1994.

Kisho Kurokawa has played a prominent role in the design of buildings of Singapore. Lane Crawford Place (1990 – 1993), Republic Plaza (1986 – 1999), Singapore Flyer (2005 – 2008), Fusionopolis Place (2006) are some of his work in Singapore.

One of the most recognisable landmark of Wheelock Place are the distinctive glass one. The building is an example of the metabolism movement of which he was one of the founding members. Metabolism was a form of radical architecture that developed in Japan during the 1960s.

In this artwork project, I focuses on one of Orchard road’s famous architectural landmark, the Wheelock Place which is also among the most visited shopping centre in Orchard road.

Inspired by American singer and songwriter Mariah Carey’s latest Christmas song , “Oh Santa”, I have also created illustration of three gorgeous looking girls in christmas outfits celebrating Christmas at the heart of Orchard road.

I loved this Christmas song which Mariah Carey teams up with Ariana Grande and Jennifer Hudson. One thing I liked about this new video is that they combine musical performances with dynamic dancing to create an holiday atmosphere track music.

In this artwork illustration, I hope to capture the famous architecture landmark in Singapore and at the same time crosses over the boundary between art, architecture, music and creates a dialogue to celebrate the holiday season especially since Christmas is just around the corner.

My goal is also to show a different side of my hometown Singapore to the world in a different way using my skill, creativity and imagination, bringing out the vibrant and joyful atmosphere.

Merry Christmas to everyone !!
