Sultan Mosque (Masjid Sultan) is a prominent mosque located at Muscat Street, around Kampong Glam area. It is named for Sultan Hussein Shah, a building location for the Muslim community in Singapore.
It is a must visit location for the Muslim in the historic Kampong Glam district along with the Buddha Tooth Relic at Chinatown, are considered two of Singapore’s most impressive religious building. It has beautiful architecture symmetry in shimmering bright gold sparkling colour with onion shaped designed domes. It have an eastern and western prayer hall which can houses up to 5000 worshippers. Mosque is built in 1824 and rebuilt in 1932 by Irish architecture Denis Santry from Swan and Maclaren. The architecture style mixes tradition Hindu and Islamic element with gothic and Neo classical styles.
I begin with hand drawn illustration of the massive golden domes which is its most striking features. It is a challenge to draw this historical landmark as every features are unique. In order to bring out the beauty of it, I coloured it in vibrant vivid colour shades. Zaahira, Shadha and Rabee are three good friends. They are all dressed up in traditional muslim outfit for this Hari Raya celebrations. This is the first time I had attempt to draw Muslim outfits and I am satisfied with the end drawing. I had done research into Kurung fashion which is the traditional fashion outfit for the Muslims.
The Sultan Mosque is a historical religious location in Singapore. I had illustrated the mosque from dawn to dusk in order to bring out the beauty of it. Hari Ray is a holiday for all Muslims and I would like to wish all Muslims friends Selemat Hari Raya. May this day brings all of you joy and blessing throughout the year.
