This year marks the 50th anniversary of the Chingay Singapore. Cultural heritage makes and shapes Singapore and the Chingay festival is a celebration of Singapore unique multi cultural landscape.
The Chingay Parade marks its anniversary with a virtual show at Jewel Changi Airport. Celebration brings the different ethnicities and culture together, inviting everyone to bond through the festival. The theme for the 50th Chingay is “Ignite Our Dreams”, encouraging everyone to pursue their passions and unleash their potential.
To pay tribute to this important festival, I have illustrated the legendary animal characters, the Dragon and various cute tigers together with four different cultures in Singapore, the Chinese, the Malay, the Peranakan and the Indian’s unique traditional costumes against the backdrop of the iconic HSBC rain vortex.
When we celebrate something together, it brings us closer and make for a stronger bond. Hope the craftwork brings everyone closer, inject vibrancy into the iconic Jewel landscape and at the same time resonate with the Chingay spirit of “Ignite Our Dreams”, encouraging everyone of us to passionately pursue our dreams and make it happen.
I had illustrated the Dragon and Tigers in the artwork, a reflection of the true nature of both the animals, hoping the illustration captures the essence of “Spring Into Fearless”, a campaign by Adobe inspiring everyone to be bold, brave and be courageous.
