Mid Autumn Festival is considered one of the most important tradition among the Chinese and it is also a great occasion to celebrate romance and marriage. it is held on the fifteenth day of the eight month of the Chinese lunar on a full moon day.
Mid Autumn Festival is a beautiful sweet and heartwarming time to celebrate love and romance. Moon is at its fullest and lanterns are everywhere. Couples usually meet and appreciate the beauty of moon together. Dazzling displays of lanterns are launched into the sky and gardens are usually transformed into an epic date worthy location.
The round shape of the full moon symbolise reunion. Captivating activities are displayed that depicts the culture and the tradition of this festival.
Today is Mid Autumn’s festival and the theme of my illustration is “reunion” and I have chosen Esplanade for my theme artwork. Esplanade is a performing arts centre located and sits entirely at The Central of Singapore. Its architectural design represent the shape of the king of fruits, “durian”. It is a performing arts centre which houses studio, theatres, art exhibition spaces, cafes and restaurants. It have two main performing arts venue, the concert hall and the theatre.
I have illustrated two artworks of Mid Autumn festival celebration at this location. Mooncakes, lanterns, couples and rabbits are the main highlights of my illustration. One is the mooncake displays. Mooncakes are sculpted in the beautiful sea of Singapore with rabbits enjoying themselves and couples having a good time. Another one is the lantern displays and celebrations near the mall. Colourful lanterns are decorated up in the buildings with sky lanterns floating up the evening sky. Rabbits which are a symbol of the festival are everywhere spreading festive cheers.
the festive being a time for family reunion and it is also a reminder that amid all the uncertainties happening in Singapore and the world, we will still make time for the celebration of moon festival.
Tonight we sing and dance beneath the moon over the sea. The moon rises and shines over the deep blue sea of Singapore. Our heart joined together despite the distance apart.
Let the beautiful stars light up Singapore. Let the brightest moon accompany everyone. Let my illustration convey my wishes. Wishing everyone a happy Mid Autumn Festival !
