In an effort to inspire and show a deeper appreciation for the Peranakan culture in Singapore, I have specially drawn the Peranakan Museum located in the heart of Singapore Civic District at Armenian street.
The museum is a museum that dedicates to showcase the rich culture of the Peranakan community in Singapore. The museum explores the culture of the Peranakan communities in Southeast Asia. It is built in 1912 and finished its renovation in 2023, installed at the former Tao Nan Chinese school.
It is a very amazing place for exploring the culture of Peranakan with 3 floors displaying the cultural traditions and heritage of Peranakan.
Singapore’s Pernankan community is mostly Peranakan Chinese, descendants of Chinese traders who settled in ports of Singapore in the 19th century.
Drawing inspiration from the Singapore Night Festival and the Peranakan culture, I have created moving building facade animation, bringing the museum to life with facade animation, women in cool kebab outfit and culture artefact.
In the artwork, I have added Tingkat which is a stainless steel floral container which is suitable for food takeaway. I have also drawn women in Kebaya, outfits that are associated with women of the Chinese Peranakan community.
The building design is made up of coloured panels that I added onto the exterior of the museum that changes according to day and night. Moving facade are spectacular, bringing the museum to life and allow it to transform according to specific circumstances and time of the day. I always enjoyed moving buildings as it creates a colourful and playful fun visual effect.
As one walks through or dances around the place, the building facade reflects the sun and moonlight and changes colour accordingly, illuminating the street, giving the heart of Civic District a vibrant atmosphere, making the museum look dynamic and eye catching. Just like the growth of Singapore, continuously changing, improving and evolving.
